Responsibilities

With an understanding of our client’s business, the Strategic Planning Director inspires action-driving ideas and guides the strategic development of programs through to execution and measurement. They are immersed in the latest news and trends to effectively navigate the retail and ecommerce space.

 

The Strategic Planning Director is a data enthusiast and creative storyteller. They work with account leads and creative teams to provide a clear point of view supported by research and data, ultimately leading to business solutions.

 

Core Job Responsibilities:

  • Work with account team to define key strategic opportunities and their potential impact on the client/agency relationship and goals
  • Lead the strategic planning and account team to draft/refine the strategic story and the creative brief
  • Support preparation of key elements for briefing sessions
  • Guide program development leveraging channel / retailer specific expertise and intelligence
  • Leverage data analysis skills to design the shoppers’ experience in-store and online
  • Partner with account and creative leads to present recommendations, identified strategies and final programs to the client
  • Lead development of direct reports through mentorship, coaching and ongoing performance feedback and identification of learning opportunities

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing, Advertising, a behavioral science field; or retail-oriented marketing such as category/trade management, sales or shopper marketing
  • 6+ years of Strategic Planning experience within the disciplines of shopper, brand, or sales strategy within a creative agency setting
  • Must have shopper marketing experience within the retail landscape
  • Global experience/interest is preferred
  • Intimately familiar with digital and its role in consumers’ and retailers’ worlds, including the ability to apply this knowledge to ecommerce programs
  • Applied experience with database tools and systems such as Simmons, MRI, Kantar, or equivalent
  • Ability to analyze results, interpret data, draw sound conclusions, and develop insightful and actionable recommendations
  • Ability to communicate clearly, thoroughly and succinctly both verbally and in writing
  • Strong attention to detail and organization, demonstrated through actions such as:
    • Effectively proofing own and others’ work to ensure accuracy
    • Actively and effectively managing timelines and deliverables of multiple projects and ad hoc requests simultaneously to meet pre-determined deadlines
